Biomass Energy Project, Tumkur
 |
SRIJAN is promoting plantations of Forestry and Horticultural crops in six villages of the Sira Taluk in Tumkur district with about 800 families.
We have promoted Village Forest Committees in six villages. These committees are responsible for raising of nurseries and subsequently overseeing implementation of tree based farming. In all 5 nurseries having 2,20,000 seedlings were raised. Around 600 acres of farmland is now under plantations. |
Given that it is a rainfed area we have promoted farm ponds to irrigate the plantations. So far, 323 farm ponds have been dug and around 350 acres of land has been covered under Agro-horti and farm-forestry. We are also promoting vermicomposting with this activity. A total investment of about Rs. 25.0 lacs has gone into these activities. |

350 women are members of 22 Self-Help Groups with a total savings of Rs. 2.71 lacs. A total of Rs. 9 lacs has been disbursed as credit to the SHG members out of the groups savings.
In future we plan develop and demonstrate a model of decentralized bio-energy technology package to provide quality rural services for lighting, pumping drinking water and cooking. And, to facilitate large-scale adoption and commercialization of bio-energy, technical, institutional and financial mechanisms will be developed. |
